Introduction
Instructors often include a section about Top Hat on their syllabus to provide their students with an understanding of what Top Hat is and the information necessary to get set up. The following information is for students who are enrolling into a Top Hat course which is not connected to an LMS such as Canvas or Blackboard.

Educators teaching multiple Top Hat courses will need to modify the URL and Join Code in the template for each of their courses. The email invitation referenced in the template is automatically generated for a Top Hat course when a student roster is uploaded and can be sent immediately following the upload or at a later time.

Your Top Hat course Join Code can be located in two places:
- Course Lobby: (Image to be inserted)
- In the Course: (Image to be inserted)
If you are teaching multiple courses, please update the below syllabus information as necessary. The information requiring your input is indicated in red below.

Copy and paste the direct course link from your browser into the syllabus insert to ensure your students are directed to the correct course.

We will be using Top Hat (https://tophat.com) for class participation. Top Hat is an educational platform that integrates interactive features into learning materials, enhancing class engagement and comprehension.

Creating your Top Hat Account / Logging In
If you already have a Top Hat account, go to [INSERT DIRECT COURSE LINK HERE] to be taken directly to our course. If you are new to Top Hat, follow the link in the email invitation you received or...
- Go to https://app.tophat.com/register/student
- Click "Search by the school" and input the name of our school
- Search for our course with the following Join Code: [JOIN CODE]
Important! You cannot create a Top Hat account using the mobile application. Please first sign-up (using your school-issued email address) and enroll into your course using a web browser.
Required Course Materials
The required course materials are: [INSERT PRODUCT NAMES & PRICE HERE]
Once enrolled, you may use the Top Hat mobile app to access your course.
Common Issues & Solutions
My Response wasn't recorded:
- The "Submit" button wasn't pressed
- The Question Timer ran out / educator closed the submission window
My grades are not showing:
- The content is still assigned in Homework mode
- The educator is required to manually grade the submission
My attendance prompt didn't appear:
- Attendance was already taken
- You left class early
